How to Get Started

Get The Right Qualifications

Carers start with the Care Certificate to ensure you “have the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to provide compassionate, safe, and high-quality care” (Skills For Care). The course is free; however, you will need an assessor to evaluate your work. At MyDearCarer, we have a qualified assessor who can sign you off once you’re ready.

For housekeepers or pet walkers there are not formal qualifications required, but experience is a plus.

Apply For An Enhanced DBS Check

Required for carers and recommended for others. We’ll guide you through the process.

We recommend registering for the Update Service to keep your DBS current. If you don’t yet have a DBS check, there are many umbrella body companies available to help you apply for one.

Registered With HMRC

Registering as self-employed in the UK is a straightforward process, but it’s important to ensure you meet all the requirements and follow the correct steps.

Get Insuranced

MyDearCarer will ensure you’re fully covered. You’ll receive Public Liability Insurance through Surewise, which covers accidents and other incidents. We want you to feel safe and have peace of mind, so you can focus entirely on your clients’ wellbeing.

If you drive, you’ll also need business car insurance.
